That’s me
Sunday, April 8th, 2007Happy Easter!
On Friday I finished my elective placement at the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow. It was a wonderful experience. I learnt a lot, on 2 counts. As well as the nursing knowledge and experience gained, I’ve learnt about life, attitudes, people, and the way I view things has probably altered too. I’m really going to miss Glasgow when I leave on Wednesday though am now looking forward to getting back to the Midlands and spending time with friends and family.
As a tribute to my new friends and peers in Scotland, here are the Glaswegian phrases I’ve picked up:
“Is that me?…. Aye that’s you”. Translates as am I ready/finished.
“Aye” or “Uh-huh” Um, Yes.
“Y’alright hen?” How are you?
“a wee” a little - applied to EVERYTHING
“Emo” - translates as something being Punk/Goth like
“Och aye” and “Ach” I know. Sort of. You can basically put it anywhere in the sentence
“Back of…”whatever time they want to meet you. Means just after.
